William Bateman, age 88, died Monday, October 1, 2012 at Laurel's Peak Rehabilitation Center in Mankato.

At Bill's request, there are no plans for a funeral, but a private family interment will be held at Woodland Hills Memorial Park, in Mankato. Mankato Mortuary is assisting with arrangements.

Bill was born May 25, 1924, in Mankato to Sheldon H and Lulu (McCardle) Bateman. He attended Mankato High School, and following graduation Bill worked for Stan A. Smith Jeweler's repairing jewelry. A job he loved for 37 years. Bill's passion was engraving which he shared with family and friends.

Bill is survived by three sisters-in-law, Edith Bateman, Myrt Bateman, and Doris Bateman all of Mankato; and many nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Marion; and five brothers, Fae, Donald, Glenn, George, and Robert.
