William Bill Harding Date, age 80 of Mankato, died Monday evening, June 28, 2004 at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Mankato with Rev. Charles Ortloff officiating. Burial will be in Minneopa Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 " 8 p.m., Wednesday (TODAY) at Mankato Mortuary and continues one hour before services at the church on Thursday. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Our Saviors Lutheran Church.
William Date was born February 21, 1924 to Leonard and Mary (Irwin) Date in Mankato. William served his country during World War II from 1943 " 1946. He was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. William was united in marriage to Lorraine Stradtman on June 21, 1946 in rural St. James. He was a police officer in Mankato for several years and later ran a service station. William enjoyed his grandchildren, music and cars.
He is survived by his wife, Lorraine; six children, Gary (Sue) Date of New Ulm, Wayne (Gail) Date, Kevin (Mary) Date, Brian (Jane) Date, Julie Date all of Mankato, Gail (Anthony) Beer of Le Center; eight grandchildren; one brother, Al Parks of Augusta, Montana; nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Preceded in death by two sons, Keith and Jeff, five brothers and four sisters.
