Eugene August Hanson, age 72, of North Mankato, died Monday, June 21, 2004 at Immanuel-St. Josephs Hospital in Mankato.
Funeral service 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Grace Lutheran Church, with Rev. Joel Erickson officiating. Interment in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Mankato. Visitation on Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. at Mankato Mortuary and continues one hour before services at church on Thursday. Memorials may be given to Mankato Area Youth Baseball or an organization of the donors choice.
Eugene was born May 2, 1932 to August and Florence (Bachman) Hanson in Madison, South Dakota. He graduated from Litchfield High School in 1949. He served his country with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Eugene married Sara Ann Jordin on November 26, 1954 in Cosmos, MN. She died January 11, 1975. He then married Carol D. Sparks on June 16, 1978 in Mankato. She died January 13, 2001. Eugene was employed with the Minnesota Department of Transportation for 42 years retiring in 1993. He was a Cub Scout Leader and was involved with Little League Baseball. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, VFW Post # 950, and American Legion Post #11. He enjoyed fishing, was an avid sports fan, and spending time at Lucky Acres Campground.
Eugene is survived by two children, Kristen Hanson of North Mankato, Rick Hanson and wife, Nonnie of St. James; five grandchildren, Anthony and Kristi Hanson of Hutchinson, Sarah Hanson of Mankato, Amy Hanson and fianc, Rick Patterson of Eden Prairie, Jennifer Hanson and Maria Hanson of St. James; sister, Marlys Pfleghaar and husband, Kenny of Coon Rapids; mother-in-law, Marjorie Sparks of North Mankato; two nieces and two nephews.
