Doris Schwantes Mattingly age 89, of Mankato, died Friday, May 28, 2004 at Mankato House Health Care Center.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Good Thunder with Rev. Rudolph H. Maurer, Jr. officiating. Burial will be in St. Johns Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at Mankato Mortuary and one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday. Memorials preferred to an organization of the donors choice.
Doris was born October 15, 1914 on a farm in Sterling Township to William and Minnie (Ward) Oachs. She attended country school at Sterling. On May 20, 1934, she married Otto Schwantes at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Mankato. They farmed near Good Thunder from 1934, until Ottos death in 1980. Doris later married Darrell Mattingly in 1981 in Good Thunder. Darrell died in 1982. Doris moved to Mankato in 1988. During her lifetime, she worked on the farm, was a painter and paper hanger and did domestic work outside her home. She enjoyed gardening, watching wrestling and dancing. She was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church in Good Thunder.
Doris is survived by a son, William Schwantes of Mankato; four daughters, LaDonna (Arnie) Brummund of Mankato, Joann (Cliff) Nelson of Sleepy Eye, Janice (Rodney) Holmgren of Mankato, Vickie (Bob) Siirtola of North Mankato; 19 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; four sisters, Florence Stanfest, Birdell Loe, Beaulah McComb, Wilma Smith all of Mankato; seven sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, Otto & Darrell; daughter, Shirley Bluhm; nine brothers; and two sisters.
