Scott F. Nelson, age 76 of Mankato died unexpectedly Thursday, May 27, 2004 at his favorite place, his lake home near Palisade, MN.
The Funeral service is 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Mankato, with Rev. Charles Ortloff officiating. Burial in Woodland Hills Memorial Park. Visitation on Monday from 4-7 p.m. at Mankato Mortuary and one hour before services at church on Tuesday. Memorials may be given to Our Saviors Lutheran Church Stained Glass Window Fund, LCMS World Relief or an organization of the donors choice.
Scott was born September 30, 1927 in Oak Park, IL to Scott F. Sr. and Marion (Bartels) Nelson. He graduated from Southwest High School, Minneapolis. In addition to the B.A. from the University of Minnesota, he has a B.S. and M.S. in Ed. Specialties from Mankato Sate University.
He served in the U.S. Army from Jan. 1946 to Feb. 1947. Scott was sports editor for the Free Press from 1952 to 1963. He was united in marriage to Marge Homfeld on June 30, 1956 in Worthington, MN. He taught at Mankato West for 26 years, first as a Journalism teacher and at the time of his retirement as an English teacher. He was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church and the Minnesota Retired Teachers Association. The most important thing in Scotts life was his wife, children, and grandchildren. He enjoyed writing and had several articles published. He was an avid baseball fan.
Scott is survived by his wife of almost 48 years, Marge Nelson; four children and their spouses, Anne and Tom George of Coon Rapids, Julie and Ron Eldridge of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, David and Jane Nelson of Champlin, Amy and Jeremy Brisson of Green Bay, WI; twelve grandchildren, Christopher, Ryan, Alyssa, and Megan George, Jennifer, Stephanie, and Amanda Eldridge, Joshua Nelson, Alec, Jack, Joseph and Isabel Brisson; a brother and his wife, Mark and Lu Nelson of AZ; nephews, nieces, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two grandchildren, Hannah and Justine.
