Jan Ure

Jan Ure, age 75 of Lake Washington, died Wednesday, May 19, 2004 at her home, from a rare type of Lymphoma called Angioimmunoblasticlymphadenopathy, with Dysoproteinemia(AILD).

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Mankato with Rev. Don Sarff officiating. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. Sunday at Mankato Mortuary and one hour prior to services at church on Monday. Memorials can be designated to Christ the King Pipe Organ Fund or the American Cancer Society.

Jan was born March 18, 1929 in Mankato to Dr. Walter and Lorna (Scharmann) Zettler. She graduated from Mankato High School in 1947 and from the University of Minnesota, with distinction from the School of Occupational Therapy in 1952. She was united in marriage to Don Ure on January 26, 1952 in Mankato at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Jan had worked for Mayo Clinic prior to her employment with Novacare as a Occupational Therapist. She worked at several area health care centers and hospitals in New Ulm, Owatonna, and Mankato, including Mankato House, Hillcrest, Oaklawn, and Mankato Lutheran Home.

Jan was a charter member of Christ the King Lutheran Church in Mankato. Jan had been active with 4-H, Mrs. Jaycees, the Red Hat Society, Bridge Club, and Sewing Club and was an avid floral and vegetable gardener. While wintering for several years in Arizona, Jan was active with the Valle Del Oro RV Resort as a stain glass monitor, she did extensive jewelry making, and participated in various volunteer groups at the resort.

Survivors include her husband, Don Ure of Lake Washington; three children, Bill Ure and wife, Terry of Anchorage, Alaska, Sue Marka and husband, Jim of Hutchinson, Mary Ure of Plymouth; six grandchildren, Angela and Beth Marka, Nicole and Katelyn Ure, Jennifer and Eric Nordstrom; a sister, Marjorie Wold and husband, Donald of Minnetonka; siter-in-law, Lynn Ure of Astoria, OR; nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and an aunt.
