Lyle Long

Lyle Leuren Long, age 83, of Mankato, died Thursday, December 25, 2003 at the Ah Gwah Ching Health Care Center in Ah-Gwah-Ching, Minnesota.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Burial with military honors will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Monday at Mankato Mortuary and one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, SCHOLA Foundation, or to an organization of the donors choice.

Lyle was born October 2, 1920 in Smiths Mill to Percy and Minnie (Burgett) Long. He enlisted with the Minnesota National Guard in 1937. He served with the United States Army and served in Kodiak, Alaska, during World War II and was honorably discharged. On September 30, 1944, he married Florence Ulmen in Mankato. Lyle was a self-employed contractor and spent over 40 years building and remodeling homes. Lyle was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Survivors include six children and their spouses, Bary and Sue Long of North Mankato, Richard and Nancy Long of Sycamore, IL, Jane and Steven Fossen of Mankato, Judie and E. Jay Zins of Mankato, Kay and Mark Beadell of Mankato, David and Debbie Long of Fountain, MN; 13 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Lois Swift and her husband, Ken of Placerville, CA; two brothers and their wives, Don and Joan Long of Rapid City, SD, Dean and Connie Long of Mankato; sister-in-law, Margaret Long of Rochester; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Florence in September of 1981; and a brother, Burl Long.
