Marlene Mary Norberg, 77, longtime resident of Mankato, died Friday, November 1, 2013 at her home at Keystone Communities of Highland Park following a courageous battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her loving family at the time of her passing.

Marlene was born June 4, 1936, in Mankato to Joseph and Laura (Kokesch) Bregel. After graduating from Good Counsel Academy in 1954, Marlene attended Mankato State College where she majored in English and Elementary Education. She was married to Harlow Norberg, the love of her life, on December 27, 1956 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in North Mankato.

Marlene was totally devoted to her family and loved spending time with her children and grandchildren and following her grandchildren in their sports and other activities. She especially enjoyed being with her husband and family at their summer home on Lake Okoboji. Marlene was a longtime member of St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and she and Harlow were generous contributors to community and charitable organizations.

Marlene is survived by her daughters, Tami (Bryan) Paulsen of Mankato; Sheri (Robert) Lund of Sioux City, IA; and Shani (James) Graham of St. Paul; son Timothy (Marilyn) Norberg of Rapid City, SD; grandchildren Joseph & Timothy Lund, Jonathan Paulsen, Michael, Cody & Jake Norberg, and Marlo & Joia Graham; sister LaVonne Cahill of Laguna Hills, CA, sisters-in-law Irene Sturm of North Mankato and Beverly (John) Todd of Mankato and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and brothers-in-law Arthur Cahill, James Sturm, and Clayton Norberg and his wife Marcella.

Visitation with be held 4:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday, November 7, at Northview - North Mankato Mortuary, 2060 Commerce Drive, North Mankato. A private family funeral and internment will be held at a later date.

Memorials are preferred to Mayo Clinic Health System Hospice and Palliative Care, and the School Sisters of Notre Dame.
