George A. "Bud" Lindsay Jr., age 80, of Mankato, died peacefully on Sunday, October 20, 2013 at his home.

Memorial services will be held on Thursday, October 24 at 12:00 p.m. at Hilltop United Methodist Church with Rev. Fred Vanderwerf officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Mankato Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

George was born to George Andrew Sr. and Mary Elizabeth (Simon) Lindsay in Youngstown, OH on January 24, 1933. After graduating from Youngstown North High School he immediately went to work for the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers as an Engineering Aide at the Youngstown Air Force Base until 1953 when he was called into military service. Upon discharge from the military service in 1955 he returned to his position with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and worked at Nike Sites in Cleveland, OH. In 1959 he was transferred to Civil Works Locks and Dam Projects on the Ohio River.

George was united in marriage to Betty Ann Becker on August 6, 1960 and moved to Shadyside, OH, where he worked on three major lock and dam projects working his way up to Supervisory Chief of Field Inspection. After completion of the Lock and Dam Projects on the Ohio River he transferred to Mankato as Assistant to the Resident Engineer working on flood protection projects at Mankato, Henderson, Ortonville, and Rochester until he retired in September of 1990 with 39 " years of service.

George enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. In 1989 he traveled to Orlando, FL with his son Andrew where he received the prestigious "Hardhat" award from the Chief of Engineers for Construction Quality Assurance Excellence.

George was a member of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association and American Legion Post 11.

He leaves his children, Andrew and Barbara (Jergenson) Lindsay of Maple Grove, MN, Richard and Julie (Bergemann) Lindsay of Mankato, MN and Anne (Lindsay) and Michael Ludvik of Belle Plaine, MN; 10 grandchildren, Claire and husband John, Jane and husband Dan, Steve, twins Christopher and Daniel, Jack, Adam, Matthew, Grace, and Elaine; great-grandson, Jack; sister, Jane Clarke; brothers, Jack and Gerald; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty; parents; and brother, Richard Lindsay.
