Katheryne "Kate" Lyga Vogel, age 82, of Mankato died Friday, February 11, 2011 at home in Mankato.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, February 15, 2011 at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Mankato with the Reverend Ted Hottinger officiating. Visitation will be 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, February 14, 2011, at Mankato Mortuary, with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service. Burial will be a Calvary Cemetery.
Kate was born on August 16, 1928, in Lacrosse, Wisconsin, to Paul and Katheryne (Taylor) Lyga. She graduated from Aquinas High School in 1946 and went onto attend Northwestern University Dental School, graduating in 1949 with a degree in dental hygiene. On June 10, 1950 she was united in marriage to Norman "Norm" John Vogel at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Lacrosse. Kate and Norm moved to Mankato in 1953. She worked for many years as a dental hygienist and after retirement volunteered at the Provincial House of the School Sisters of Notre Dame in Mankato. Kate was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the General Society of Mayflower Descendants.
Kate is survived by her husband Norm of Mankato; son Norm Vogel Jr. of Mankato, Ellie Vogel of New Richmond Wisconsin, Ann (Patrick Mulready) Vogel of Racine Wisconsin, Katie (Bill) Vogel Moran of Minneapolis, and Paul (Kristin) Vogel of Mankato; 12 grandchildren: Nicholas, Nathan, and Emily Vogel; Kristy and Thomas Teske; John, Matthew, and Peter Mulready; Ryan and Maggie Moran; Joe and Mike Vogel; and two great grandchildren: Dante' and Dominic LaDuke; sister Ellen (Henry) Funk of Lacrosse, Wisconsin; brothers Paul (Patricia) and Michael (Peg) Lyga of Lacrosse Wisconsin, and many nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death her sister Patricia, brother in-law Jerry Geraldson, and son Bill.
The family asks that in-lieu of flowers memorials in Kate's name be made to the School Sisters of Notre Dame in Mankato. Thank you Kate and Norm.
