Florine Sandmeyer, age 79, of Mankato, died Friday, January 28, 2011, at Hillcrest Health Care Center.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, February 2, 2011 at S.S. Peter and Paul's Catholic Church. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Mankato Mortuary with a prayer service at 6:45 p.m. and continue one hour prior to service at the church on Wednesday. Burial will be held at Calvary Cemetery.

Florine was born on July 18, 1931, to John and Katherine (Baumgartner) Roehrich on the Joe Welk Farm near Hague, ND. The family moved to Linton, ND from Ridgeview, SD in 1941 where Florine attended school and then worked in the Emmons County Court House. Eventually she left North Dakota for California and met her future husband, James W. Sandmeyer, who was in the United States Navy at the time. They married on May 22, 1957 in Linton, ND. Florine loved baking and sewing, both of which she was very accomplished at. She is renowned for her 100 Bun Bread Recipe and loved baking with her grandchildren, a couple of whom learned the craft and will be in high demand. Florine was also very involved with S.S. Peter and Paul's Catholic Church, by baking pies with her longtime friend Mary Mocol, making quilts and baby blankets and helping out the "Church Ladies" on many occasions. She lived to tell stories and loved to visit with friends and relatives. Florine will also be dearly remembered for her unfailing concern for the welfare of others, her kind and generous attitude and the richness she has bestowed upon our lives.

Florine is survived by her five sons, daughter, and daughter-in-law: Jerome Sandmeyer of Tampa, FL, Don (Maureen) Sandmeyer of Mankato, MN, George Sandmeyer of Prior Lake, MN, Theresa (Sandmeyer) Bing of Sarasota, FL, Mark Sandmeyer of Mankato, MN, Chris Sandmeyer of Spartanburg, SC; eight grandchildren: Lisa, David, Stephanie, Kyle and Jordan Sandmeyer, Kristina Tolzmann and Amanda and Ryan Murray, one great-grandchild: Viktor Von Sternberg; two sisters and one brother-in-law: Hermina Kelly of Aberdeen, SD and Eleanor and Jack Schell of San Pablo, CA; three brothers and three sisters-in-law: Edward (Cindy) Rohrich of Hayward, CA, Jack (Florence) Rohrich of Linton, ND and Henry (Suzanne) Rohrich of Linton, ND.

Florine was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, James W. Sandmeyer, two children: John and Ramona Sandmeyer, three sisters: Marie Rohrich, Diane Munson and Bernadine McGilvery, and three brothers: Leo, John and Joseph Rohrich.
