LuElla Joyce Roberts, age 93, of Mankato and formerly of Garden City, died Monday, January 17, 2011 at Oaklawn Health Care Center in Mankato.

Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, January 21, 2011 at Mankato Mortuary. Burial will be in Garden City Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m., Thursday at Mankato Mortuary and will continue one hour prior to the service at the mortuary on Friday.

LuElla was born September 5, 1917 to Harry and Clara (Pahl) McMonagle in Vernon Center, MN. She graduated from Garden City High School in 1935. On June 6, 1936, LuElla was united in marriage to Everett James at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Vernon Center. He passed away December 24, 1958. On June 30, 1962, LuElla was united in marriage to Lyle Roberts at Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Garden City. She was the head cook at Garden City High School and worked at Automatic Electric (Midtex) in Mankato for 23 years before retiring in 1984. LuElla was an avid Vikings fan, having season tickets for many years. She also enjoyed watching Twins baseball. LuElla was a member of the Women of the Moose, American Legion, VFW and Eagles Auxiliary. She was an excellent cook and famous for her assortment of Christmas cookies and candies and in her earlier years made wedding cakes. LuElla also entertained the entire family for Christmas dinner for many years. Her favorite pastime was playing bingo and games of chance. LuElla liked to travel with Lyle on winter vacations to Texas and Las Vegas.

LuElla is survived by her husband, Lyle of Mankato; son, E. William "Bill" (Margaret) James of Garden City; two grandchildren, Renee (Richard) Forseth of North Mankato and William T. "Billy" James of Lake Crystal; two great-grandchildren, Lukas and Lyssa Forseth; brother, Eugene (Helen) McMonagle of Madelia; many nieces and nephews.

LuElla was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Everett; two brothers, Ralph and Jody; two sisters, Marie Cooper and Barbara Peterson.
