Edward Honken

Edward A. Honken, age 78 of Lake Crystal died Sunday, May 9, 2004 at Immanuel-St. Josephs Hospital in Mankato.

Memorial service 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church in Lake Crystal with Rev. Kaye Brandt officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday. Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis. Lake Crystal Mortuary is handling arrangements.

Edward was born September 16, 1925 in Titonka, Iowa to Arend and Jenny (Karels) Honken. He served in the US Navy during World War II and was honorably discharged. On September 16, 1950, he married Donna M. Frisvold in East Chain, Minnesota. They lived in Lake Crystal for the past 19 years. Edward worked for Tony Downs and Banquet Foods. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Blue Earth VFW. He enjoyed reading and tinkering with motors.

Survivors include his wife, Donna Honken of Lake Crystal; daughter, Rhonda Dragan and husband, Dave of Corcoran; three grandchildren, Shawn Honken of Mankato, Travis Dragan and Tyler Dragan both of Corcoran; five great-grandchildren; sister, Andrea Wolvoord of Blue Earth; two stepsisters, Merna Karels and husband, John of Lake Crystal, Mina Lowman of Winnebago.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Michael; granddaughter, Shanda Jonassen; two brothers, Leonard and Arend; two sisters, Minnie Gerdis and Annie Gerdis.
