Freddie Harold Schroeder, age 88, of Mankato, died Saturday, May 1, 2004, at Mankato House Health Care Center, where he had resided since March 23.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 5, 2004, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Mankato, with Rev. Mary Iverson officiating. Interment will be in Glenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the church on Wednesday. Mankato Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Freddie was born on January 3, 1916, in Lamberton, to Carl and Anna (Pufahl) Schroeder. He was baptized on February 27, 1916, and confirmed on March 9, 1930, at St. Johns Church in Germantown. Freddie had been a bartender in Lamberton, Darfur, and Comfrey. After moving to Mankato, he worked for various construction companies. He was a lifelong member of Local 132 Labor Union, and worked on many projects in the Mankato area, including the Second Street Ramp, James Avenue Apartments, All Seasons Arena, and on Hwy. 169. Freddie was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and the Mankato Moose Lodge. His hobbies included spending time with his Chinese Pug, Moxie , and also caring for others pets, feeding birds, and gardening. Freddie was also an avid reader and enjoyed old time music. He especially enjoyed his coffee times at Hardees, Hy Vee, and McDonalds, meeting and talking with people. Freddie and his wonderful sense of humor will be missed by his many friends.
Freddie is survived by his wife, Erna of Mankato; one sister-in-law, Mabel Ewy of St. James; also special neighbor kids, Roger, Linda, and Lori Southwick of Mankato.
