Retired Mankato East High School principal, Leonard W. Zimmerman, age 68 of Madison Lake died Saturday, April 17, 2004 as the result of an automobile accident near Fruita, CO.
Funeral service 10:30 a.m. Friday at Mankato Mortuary Chapel, Mankato, with Rev. Albert H. Thompson III officiating. Interment in Glenwood Cemetery. Visitation on Thursday from 4-8 p.m. at Mankato Mortuary and one hour before services on Friday. Memorials may be given to Leonard W. Zimmerman Scholarship Fund.
Leonard was born August 2, 1935 in Herman, MN to Edward and Anna (Upke) Zimmerman. He graduated from Herman High School and received his B.S. degree in English from Moorhead State College. Mr. Zimmerman earned his Master degree from University of Northern Colorado, Greeley, CO and his Specialist Degree in School Administration from Mankato State University. Mr. Zimmerman taught school for a number of years and than began his career as an administrator in Kimball. He was principal at Mankatos Franklin Junior High from 1969 to 1982 and principal at Mankato East from 1983 to 1992, when he retired.
He was united in marriage to Joyce M. Larson on January 22, 1966 in Mankato. He was a member of Minnesota Education Association. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling, all types of sports, but most of all spending time with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce M. Zimmerman; a daughter, Rebecca Zimmerman Nomeland and husband, Tom of Faribault; two grandsons, Peter and Henry; a brother, Rodney Zimmerman and wife, Barbara of Hollandale; nephews, nieces and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
