Raymond Joseph Steffl, age 87 of Mankato, died Thursday, April 8, 2004.

Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Mankato with Rev. John Wilmot officiating. Burial in Calvary Cemetery in Mankato. Visitation will be held from 5"7 p.m., Sunday at Mankato Mortuary and one hour before services at the church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to VINE.

Raymond was born July 15, 1916 to John and Martha (Hartneck) Steffl in Clements, MN. He joined the Civilian Conservation Corp in 1935. Ray served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army Air Corp, earning the rank of Staff Sergeant. In 1948, he married Betty Snow at SS. Peter and Pauls Catholic Church in Mankato. He worked in sales for H&C Electric for 45 years, retiring in 1993.

Raymond was a charter member of St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church and a member of Knights of Columbus, American Legion Post 11, Ducks Unlimited, and the Minnesota Waterfowl Association. He earned his private pilots license and enjoyed flying and traveling. He liked photography, spending time at his lake home and was an avid hunter and angler.

Ray is survived by his wife, Betty of Mankato; three sons, John Steffl of Duluth, Joseph Steffl and wife, Christine of Mankato, James Steffl and wife, Margo Dietz of Mankato; one daughter, Virginia Steffl of St. Paul; four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, and a daughter-in-law.
