Stella J. Molloy, age 86, of Mankato, died Sunday, March 28, 2004 at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis. Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m., Sunday, April 4, 2004, at Christ The King Lutheran Church in Mankato, with Rev. John Petersen and Rev. Donohue Sarff officiating. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. on Saturday at Mankato Mortuary, and continues one hour prior to the service at the church on Sunday. Interment will be at a later date in Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Christ The King Lutheran Church Pipe Organ Fund.
Stella was born on September 1, 1917 in Eden Township, Winnebago County, Iowa. She was the daughter of Emil and Johanna (Almlie) Flo. Stella was baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church in rural Kiester, MN, and was confirmed in her faith at Bricelyn Lutheran Church in Bricelyn, MN. She was a 1935 graduate of Bricelyn High School, and also the Minneapolis School of Business in 1940. Stella worked as a private secretary in Minneapolis for five years.
Stella was united in marriage to George D. Molloy on February 10, 1946 in Bricelyn. They lived on several military bases until her husbands retirement from the Marine Corps in 1957. They then lived in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, before moving to Mankato in 1961. Stella was employed with the Prescription Care Center in Mankato for nine years, and retired in 1975. She was a member of Christ The King Lutheran Church in Mankato since 1961, where she was active in quilting and was past president and secretary/treasurer of the Altar Guild. Stella was also a member of the Sons of Norway Elvesvingen Lodge 1-582 in Mankato, the American Ex-P.O.W. Hiawatha Chapter, Elderversity, and volunteered for ten years at Hilltop Neighbors. She enjoyed dancing, traveling, cooking, music, reading, and visiting with family and friends.
Stella was cherished and loved by her family and friends. We were blessed by her gentle, kind, generous and loving spirit. Her sweet smile radiated her inner peace and goodness. She was well known for her culinary talents, especially her Norwegian delights. She found great joy in her long awaited grandchildren who also adored her. Her deep spiritual beliefs guided her and gave her strength throughout her life. She will be greatly missed by all.
Stella is survived by her son and his wife, John and Denise Molloy of Boyd, WI; two daughters, Kathleen Molloy, and Patricia Patty Molloy and her husband, Patrick Curran, all of Minneapolis; three grandchildren, Rachel Molloy, and Riley and Georgia Curran; one sister, Myrtle Helgeson of Bricelyn; two sisters-in-law, Signe Beaty and her husband, John of Bricelyn, and Merrion Koskovitch of Blue Earth; one brother-in-law, Charles Lamb and his wife, Inga of Livingston Manor, N.Y.; nine nieces and nephews; fourteen great nieces and nephews; also many cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George in 1994; one infant son; step-mother, Bertha Mork Flo; three brothers, Leon, Lawrence, and Donald Flo.
