Owen G. Spud Hewitt, age 85 of rural North Mankato, died Tuesday, March 2, 2004 at his home.

Funeral service 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Belgrade Ave. United Methodist Church, North Mankato, with Rev. James E. Roe officiating. Interment in Minneopa Cemetery. Visitation on Friday from 4-7 p.m. at Mankato Mortuary and one hour before services at the church on Saturday.

Mr. Hewitt was born January 16, 1919 in Cambria Township, Blue Earth County, to George and Gladys (Owens) Hewitt. He grew up in Cambria Township and graduated from Lake Crystal High School in 1938. His main occupation was farming, but he had also worked at Kato Engineering and Moorman Feeds. Mr. Hewitt owned and operated Metal Products Manufacturing Company, building over 200 metal buildings. He was united in marriage to Marion Elizabeth Harris on December 29, 1943 in Cambria. He was a member of Belgrade Ave. United Methodist Church, North Mankato. Mr. Hewitt served on the Belgrade Township board for a number of years. In his younger years he loved to play baseball.

He is survived by his wife, Marion; four daughters, Betty Nelson of Littleton, CO, Jean DeZeeuw and her husband, John of Springfield, Donna Fjoser of North Mankato, Barbara Larson and her husband, Tom of North Mankato; two sons, Douglas Hewitt and his wife, Donna of rural North Mankato, Bruce Hewitt and his wife, Mary of rural North Mankato; thirteen grandchildren, Christine and Catherine Nelson, Melissa and Mari DeZeeuw, Jessica and Gregory Hewitt, Andrew, Sarah and Benjamin Fjoser, Chad and Tyler Hewitt, Adam and Ryan Longhenry, six great-grandchildren, Hailey, Breeanna, Austin, Kierstyn and Drew Fjoser, Gavin Sellner; two brothers, Lester and Roy Hewitt of North Mankato; nephews, nieces and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Robert.
