Dorothy Ann (Friday) Jacques, age 87, of Lake Crystal, died Monday, October 11, 2010 at Crystal Seasons in Lake Crystal.
Memorial Service will be held at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, October 16, 2010 at Zion Lutheran Church, Lake Crystal, with Rev. Nancy Dreier officiating. Visitation will held one hour before service at church on Saturday. Burial will be at a later date in Lake Crystal Cemetery. Lake Crystal Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be given to ECHO Food Shelf or Zion Lutheran Church.
Dorothy was born March 22, 1923 to Henry and Gudrun (Filholm) Friday in White, SD. In 1934 the family moved to a farm in Medo Township where Dorothy attended a rural school and was confirmed at the Medo Lutheran Church. Later, the family moved to the Lake Crystal area and she attended school and graduated from Lake Crystal High School in 1941. The following year she attended Mankato Commercial College.
Dorothy married Donald L. Jacques at Zion Lutheran Church in Lake Crystal on June 7, 1947. They farmed in Brown County Kansas for 13 years and moved with their family to Lake Crystal where they farmed until retirement in 1989. Dorothy worked in the office for the Department of Agriculture for ten years and as secretary to the elementary school principal in Lake Crystal for 23 years. Following retirement in 1989, she did clerical work part-time for private companies.
Dorothy was a member of Upper Wolf Lutheran Church in Robinson, KS and Zion Lutheran Church in Lake Crystal. She served on many committees, taught Sunday school and was a member of the Women's Groups at both churches.
Dorothy is survived by her beloved husband, Donald; son, Barry (Cindy) Jacques; two daughters, Donita (Christopher) Calvin, Debra (Doug) Wallace; brother, Wallace (Mona) Friday of Mankato; sister, Julienne Friday of Forest City, IA; seven special grandchildren, Brent (Miranda) Jacques, Brandon Jacques, Blaine Jacques, Jeannette Calvin, Phillip Calvin, Ryan Wallace, and Kirsten Wallace; three special great-grandchildren, Hailie, Alexis, and Cooper Jacques.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents.
Dorothy fed many with her generous spirit and will be missed by many.
