Bryce V. Smart, age 90, of Mankato, died Wednesday, October 6, 2010 at Oak Terrace Assisted Living Center in North Mankato.

Funeral service will be held 11:30 a.m. Saturday, October 9, 2010 at North Mankato Mortuary " NORTHVIEW, 2060 Commerce Drive in North Mankato. The Rev. Doug Grams will be officiating. Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 11, 2010 at Minnesota State Veteran Cemetery, Camp Ripley near Little Falls, Minnesota. There will be a time to visit with the family on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at North Mankato Mortuary " NORTHVIEW.

The family suggests memorials to ISJ Hospice program in lieu of flowers.

Bryce was born June 18, 1920 to Ernest and Mary (White) Smart. He was a Morton High School graduate and served in the US Army. He was married to Ellen Shutt in 1949 in the Twin Cities. Bryce was a mechanic in Morton, Minnesota prior to moving to Brainerd, where he owned and operated his own Mobile Station. He was a member of the Brainerd American Legion. Bryce enjoyed the outdoors by working the summers at Madden's Resort, fishing, and deer hunting. In the summer of 2000 he moved to Mankato and enjoyed his remaining years with his sister-in-law, Wilma Grams. He had lots of special family time during those years and had many wonderful friends and neighbors.

Bryce is lovingly survived by his son, Rodney Smart and his wife, Kisun of Killeen, TX; daughter, Debra Simon of Hinkley, MN; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Wilma Grams of Mankato; brother, Bill Smart and his wife, Doris; three sisters, Avis, Erma Lee and husband, Jim, Annie and husband Fred; many nieces and nephews.

Bryce was preceded in death by his wife, Ellen, who died on January 20, 2000, one brother, Vivian, three sisters, Silvia, Betty Lou, and Doris.

Bryce's family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff of Oak Terrace Assisted Living/ Memory Care, and ISJ Hospice for the wonderful care he received during his final days.
