Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, February 24, at St. Pauls Evangelical Lutheran Church in North Mankato with Rev. Gary Wong officiating. Burial will be in Minneopa Cemetery. Elsie Marie Lucas was born May 23, 1920, to William and Lydia (Hanel) Dackins in Mankato. She was united in marriage with John Lucas on August 24, 1940, in Mankato. She worked for Dr. Alfred Macdanz as a dental assistant in Mankato from 1940 to 1945. Elsie was then a homemaker for her family. She was a member of St. Pauls Evangelical Lutheran Church in North Mankato. She enjoyed dancing, sewing, and the companionship of her cats.

Elsie is survived by her son, Dr. James R. Lucas and his friend, Marianne Faber, of North Mankato; her daughter, Judy M. Courtney and grandson, Ryan Courtney, both of Lexington, Kentucky; two sisters, Betty Sheffield and her husband, Harold, of Yakima, Washington, and Lorraine Campbell and her husband, Jake, of St. Peter; sister-in-law, Trudy Dackins, of Mankato; nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, John; her twin sister, Edith Lewis; three other sisters, Ruth Banta, Wilma Fields, and Ann Paulson; and one brother, William Dackins.

The family is deeply appreciative of the professional care and loving attention provided by Elsies second family at Hillcrest Health Care Center and by Karie Soost, Physicians Assistant Certified. In Elsies later years, the special friendship of Viola and Tom Hagen significantly brightened her days.

Elsie was a generous and caring wife and mother, as well as a lover of all creatures great and small. She dedicated much of her time to the rescue and care of homeless cats. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the Blue Earth/Nicollet County Humane Society.
