Adolf J. Ehlbeck, age 94, of Mankato, died Wednesday, January 28, 2004 at the Mankato Lutheran Home.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Mankato with Rev. Wayne Eichstadt officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery in Spirit Lake, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 2 " 4 p.m., Sunday at Mankato Mortuary. Visitation will continue one hour before services at the church on Monday. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Immanuel Lutheran Church or donors choice.
Adolf was born September 9, 1909 to William H. and Bertha M. (Bruhn) Ehlbeck in Spirit Lake, Iowa. Adolf graduated from Spirit Lake High School in 1926. After graduation he owned and operated a grocery store, Ehlbecks Grocery. He married Henrietta Spitteler on February 9, 1938 in Spirit Lake. Adolf also worked for Red Owl, Carnation Dairy, and Snow White Dairy. After his retirement he cared for his wife until her death and then cared for his ill mother. Although Adolf never farmed, he had an interest in agriculture. He also enjoyed reading, doing volunteer work, and walking. He lived in Spirit Lake all his life until 1989 when ill health forced him to move to Mankato to be closer to his daughter and family. He resided at Real-Life, Sibley Manor East, and the Mankato Lutheran Home.
Survived by one daughter, Margaret Ann Wheaton and husband, Burdette of Mankato; three grandchildren, Pastor Timothy Wheaton and wife, Trudy of Lamar, CO, Michael Wheaton and wife, Ann of St. Clair, Julie Ann Busch and husband, Matthew of Mankato; seven great-grandchildren, Ian and Paul Wheaton, Andrea and Mara Wheaton, Kayla Ann, Emma Lea, and Grace Ann Busch. Preceded in death by his wife, Henrietta in 1975.
