Sister Mary George (Catherine Kuhn), School Sister of Notre Dame, age 93, died Wednesday, January 21, 2004, at Good Counsel Convent, Mankato.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at Good Counsel Chapel, with Father Neal Wilkinson, S.J. as celebrant. Burial will follow in Good Counsel Cemetery. Visitation is from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday at Good Counsel, with Vespers in the chapel at 7:00 p.m. Visitation is also one hour prior to the funeral on Saturday. Mankato Mortuary is in charge.
Sister Mary George was born September 15, 1910 in Odessa, Russia, to Daniel and Frances (Stroh) Kuhn. She entered the School Sisters of Notre Dame in Mankato in 1928 and took First Vows in 1931. For over 50 years, she served as cook and housekeeper in convents in Minnesota, North Dakota, and Iowa. In 1984 she came to Good Counsel where she did community service until her retirement in 1992.
Sister Mary George is survived by four sisters, Sister M. Daniella, SSND, and Sister Mary Alene, SSND, both of Good Counsel, Sister Mary Ann Welder, OSB, of Bismarck, Benita Mitzel of East Grand Forks, and two brothers, Gabe Kuhn of Rosemount, and Al Kuhn of Alamogordo, NM. She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, Sister M. Dora, SSND, Magdalen Nolz, and Lucille Richter Schaible and one brother, Pius Kuhn.
