Alan John “Butch” Wick, age 80, of St. Peter, passed away on Monday, July 3, 2023 at Oak Terrace Assisted Living in Le Sueur, MN.
Butch was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Christian and Louise Wick on June 28, 1943. His family moved to Minnesota and Butch was raised in and attended school in south central Minnesota. As a young man Butch traveled with his brothers for work.
Butch met the love of his life, Donna Mae (Gatzke) Wick, in 1961 and they were married on October 13, 1962. Their life together started in Wells, MN but they eventually settled outside of St. Peter near Traverse, where they raised their 4 children. Butch worked for an area farmer for many years and later at Hardware Hank, Ace Hardware, and Andresen Plumbing in St. Peter.
During his life Butch loved to spend time with his family, going camping, fishing and hunting, shaking dice, walking his dog, Willis, and watching racing and true crime TV shows. Butch was a true handyman and his skills were truly appreciated by those he helped, whether it was building a fence or completing a plumbing project. More than one project started with the thought “I wonder if a guy could…?” Very often we learned that a guy could! The sound of his deep voice, laugh and funny sayings will be greatly missed.
Butch is survived by his children, Bonnie (Tom) Kahlow, Cheryl (Kirk) Moret, Ron (Patty) Wick, and Sandy Wick; grandchildren, Ryan and Sean Kahlow, Kyle (Emily), Katie and Adam Moret, Brandon, Ben and Becky Wick, Brianna (Will) Robeck-Schwartz, and Sierra (Cameron Wilking) Robeck; great-grandchildren, Jack Moret, Riley Schwartz, and Luca Wilking; and special niece, Jenna Bastin, who Butch called his 4th daughter; siblings, Corrine Lenort, Carol (Mark) Bergo, Nancy (Doug) Wick, Janice (Brett) Peterson, and Greg (Lois) Wick; in-laws, Judy Gondreau, Bill (Lori) Gatzke, John (Jill) Gatzke, Mary (Cody) Coffey, Linda Gatzke; and many nieces, nephews and other extended family.
Butch is preceded in death by his wife, Donna; his parents; mother and father-in-law, Melvin and Lila Gatzke; brothers, Kerry, Wayne, Jeff and Bruce Wick; sisters, Melissa Wick and Betty Fuhs; and other extended family members.
