Alan Wayne Mason, age 70, of Mankato, passed away May 13, 2020 peacefully at his home surrounded by his family.   

A private family service will be held at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Mankato Mortuary is assisting the family with arrangements.  Condolences can be left for the family at www.mankatomortuary.com.  Memorials are preferred to St. Jude's, the Harry Meyering Center, or the donor's choice.

Alan was born on September 16, 1949 in Eldora, IA to Wallace and Lorene (Opstvedt) Mason.  He graduated from Radcliffe High School in Radcliffe, IA in 1967.  He then graduated from Ellsworth Community College in Iowa Falls, IA in 1969.  Al graduated from Mankato State University in 1971 with a business administration degree.  Al was united in marriage to Donna Tisdale on July 6, 1974 in Zearing, IA.  Al began his financial career in 1972 as a collector and consumer leader for Postal Finance in Des Moines, IA.  He worked at First Newton National Bank and Wells Fargo for many years and retired from Frandsen Bank and Trust in Mankato in 2014.  He had over 30 years of successful business and commercial banking and credit experience. 

Al was a member of the Mankato Elks Club #225 in Mankato and the Newton Lodge #59 of Grand Lodge, IA and generously supported many civic organizations.  Al enjoyed his retirement years and spending more time with his loving family, grandsons, and his network of friends.  He also enjoyed raising three beautiful vizsla dogs.  He always had a pristine yard and wanted to be the first in his neighborhood to mow his lawn every spring.  Al loved morning visits with his coffee friends and watching the Iowa Hawkeye football games with his buddies in his garage.   

Those remaining to cherish his memories are his wife, Donna of Mankato; two children, Dana (David) Womer of Malta, New York and Kara (Matthew) Mickelson of Nicollet; four grandchildren, Mason and Jackson Womer and Wesley and Xander Mickelson; sister, Marlowe Peppar of Radcliffe, IA; brothers and sisters-in-law, Warren (Karen) Weber of Council Bluffs, IA, Tom (Raylene) Tisdale of Newton, IA, Mary (Don) White of Cedar Falls, IA, and David (Kathy) Tisdale of Zearing, IA; aunt, Bonnie Mason of Texas; and his loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Marilyn Weber; father and mother-in-law, Dale (Norene) Tisdale; and niece, Krista Nissen.
