Alice Lorraine Schwardt (nee Bergemann)

Alice Lorraine Schwardt (nee Bergemann), age 87, of St. James, passed away at her home in St. James with her daughters by her side on Friday, December 29, 2023.

Funeral service will be held at 11am, Friday, January 5, 2024 at Salem Lutheran Church in Madelia with visitation two hours prior. Burial will follow at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Fieldon. Mankato Mortuary is assisting the family with arrangements (www.mankatomortuary.com)

Alice was born December 18, 1936 to William and Nora (Wester) Bergemann. Alice married John Schwardt on December 5, 1954 and was married for 63 years until he passed away. Alice worked by his side on their family farm and raised three daughters.  From 1986 to 2011, Alice worked at Luther Memorial Home in Madelia as a housekeeper.

Alice enjoyed sewing, embroidery, gardening, diamond art, and spending time with family.

Alice is survived by her daughters, Irene (Steve) McCabe and Susan Malterer (Dave McNab); grandchildren, Timothy (Susan) McCabe, Benjamin (Randee) McCabe, David (Stephanie) Malterer, and Brittany (Zach) Hinrichs; great-grandchildren, Zach, Allie, Johnathon, Liam, Eddie, Aurora, Luanna, Phoenix, Juliette, Evelyn, Gia, and Piper; brother, Waldo (Nadene) Bergemann; and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her husband; daughter, Ruth; son-in-law, Keith; parents; and sister, Mildred.
