Aljean Mary Ackerman

Aljean Mary Ackerman, age 84, of Mankato, MN, peacefully passed away on December 24th at Oak Terrace. She was born on June 3rd, 1939, to Perne and Bernice (Lynch) Silvernale in Currie, MN.

As a child, she loved fishing and singing. She always said singing to God is like praying twice. She attended Immaculate Heart of Mary School, in Currie, until her marriage to Robert Ackerman on July 4th, 1956. This is where they made their home and raised their five children. She was a dedicated homemaker and also assisted her husband in his construction business, specializing in painting and wood refinishing. In 1983, they moved to Mankato, where she worked for Carlson Craft until her retirement. Throughout the years, Aljean enjoyed many winters spent in Mesa, AZ, and also cherished gatherings with her family. For the final two years of her life, she resided at Oak Terrace where group activities, arts and crafts, and playing the piano, kept her busy and happy.

Known for her creativity, Aljean found joy in ceramics, crocheting, and embroidery work. She also loved entertaining friends with many coffee parties.

Aljean is survived by her husband of 67 years, Robert Ackerman; Jeffrey (Susan) of Rogers, MN; Kathy Jo (Wallace) Johns of Mankato, MN; Bryan (Suzie) of Northfield, MN; Kenneth (LaRae) of Mankato, MN; Allan (Deborah) of Chandler, TX; 13 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents Perne A. and Bernice Silvernale; siblings James Silvernale, Sherwood Silvernale, Collette Schmidt, Perne B. Silvernale, and grandson Nathaniel Ackerman.

A memorial service to celebrate Aljean's life will be held on Saturday December 30th at Holy Rosary Church in North Mankato at 11am, with visitation 1 hour before at church.
