Allan Linn Adams

Allan (Al) Linn Adams, 81 of Mankato (formerly St. James) passed away on Tuesday February 25th in Mankato surrounded by family.

Al was born June 14th 1943 to Everyl and Doris Adams in Algona, Iowa. His family later moved to Mankato. He met his high school sweetheart, Barb Rebstock at Mankato High School and graduated in 1962. He attended Mankato State and graduated with a B.S. in Geography. He and Barb were married at Belgrade Avenue United Methodist Church in North Mankato. They moved to St. James where Al spent his entire career teaching Social Studies and American History. Over the years he coached many sports including football, cross country, track and golf but being a wrestling coach and referee was his favorite. He was an assistant coach for two state wrestling championships. Al was inducted into the St James High School Hall of Fame for Wrestling (2010) and for Outstanding Contributions to the Athletic Programs (2019).

Al was a proud member of the National Guard and served for 23 years. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, deer hunting, yard work and attending his grandchildren’s activities and sporting events. Most recently he enjoyed spending time with his three great granddaughters. Al was a man of faith, loved his family and worked hard all his life. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, dedicated teacher, coach and proud Democrat.

Al is survived by his wife Barb, daughter Marti (Tom) Jancoski of North Mankato, son Tony (Nicole) Adams of North Mankato, son Tim of Faribault, Grandchildren Kate Rohwer, Sara (Anthony) Daily, Jake and Luke Jancoski, Tori and Whitney Adams, great granddaughters Claire, Maeve and Emma, his sister Helen (Tony) Kaufenberg, sister in-law Nancy (Gene) Lindmeyer, and many nieces and nephews. He was proceeded in death by his parents, five sisters and one brother.

Al’s funeral will be held at Northview- North Mankato Mortuary on Monday March 3 at 11:00am. There will be a visitation before the service from 9:00 – 11:00 am. His body will be laid to rest at Fort Snelling.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St, Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, District 840 Foundation, Belgrade Avenue United Methodist Church or Jonathan Zierdt Cancer Fund.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of St. Croix Hospice who gave him exceptional care and attention.
