Alvera Brooks

Alvera “Pete” Rose Brooks, 89, died peacefully May 23, 2020 at home on the family farm outside Mankato.

A private family service will be held at Northview-North Mankato Mortuary Burial will be at Pilgrims Rest Cemetery in Mankato. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any memorials be directed to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Alvera was born March 21, 1931 to Joseph and Magdelena (Wild) Biedscheid. She was promptly nick-named “Pete” by her brothers who anticipated another brother (stories about this vary), but the nick-name “Pete” stuck for life.  She graduated from Loyola High School in 1949. Pete married Harvey Clinton Brooks on April 26, 1952, and spent her life as a dedicated mother, farm wife, and homemaker.

Alvera (“Pete”) is survived by her sons, Randy (friend, Paula), Frank (friend, Karen), Rick (Paula), Tom (Becky), and Joe (Karen); her daughter, Terri; and daughter-in-law Nancy;  grandchildren, Amy Radunz, Ben (friend, Kari) Brooks, Dusty (Ashley) Brooks, Kevin Brooks, and Jason Brooks; five step-grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; step-great grandchildren; and one great-great granddaughter.

Pete was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey in 2019; her son, Jack; her parents, Joseph and Magdelena Biedscheid; and her brothers and sister.

Pete loved nothing more than spending time with her family and her friends. She will be deeply missed.

The family would like to thank Ecumen Hospice and Freedom Home Care for care, support, and richness they added to Pete’s life.
