Alvina was born on August 3, 1933, in Nashville Township, Martin County to John and Frances Goraczkowski. She graduated from Amboy High School in 1951. On December 27, 1956, she married Walter Maine, her husband of nearly 35 years who passed away on December 26, 2003. For many years they lived on a small family hobby farm near Mapleton.

She was a clerk at the Sterling Store in Amboy which her parents operated and then went on to be a devoted homemaker. Alvina was caring, creative, lived by faith and dearly loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Family gatherings and celebrating birthdays and holidays, especially Christmas, were important to her. She always made sure everyone was fed.

She liked cats and kittens, lighthouses, living in the country, watching deer and birds, going on road trips and drives to a lake, flower gardening, collecting rocks, and music - singing, playing piano, organ and tone chimes. Alvina also liked performing in drama club, sharing photos, quilting, sewing, knitting, crocheting, making crafts and watching Vikings, Twins games and college basketball - she loved March Madness. She enjoyed playing games – bingo was her favorite. Alvina also enjoyed completing puzzles, Sudoku and Word Search books and was known as the Puzzle Queen.

Alvina is survived by her daughter, Rosemary (Greg) Vogel; grandchildren: Melissa Cannon, Mitchell (Amy) Maine, Michelle Maine, and Kevin (Kaity) Vogel; 11 great-grandchildren; sisters: Alice Swiontek and Pauline Estep.
