Barbara Jean Junker, age 94, of North Mankato, died Wednesday, March 27, 2024, at Oak Terrace in North Mankato.
A Celebration of Barbara’s Life will be held at 4:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 9, 2024, at Northview – North Mankato Mortuary, 2060 Commerce Drive, North Mankato. Visitation will be from 3-4:30 p.m., Tuesday at Northview. Interment will be in Ft. Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis. Memorials are preferred to Mayo Clinic Health System – Mankato Hospice.
Barbara was born June 11, 1929, in Minneapolis, MN to Edward and Helen (Trask) Gamm. Barbara was united in marriage to Richard A. Junker on September 4, 1948, in Stillwater. Barbara and her husband, Richard, owned and operated Junker’s in North Mankato.
Barbara volunteered for over 30 years at Immanuel St. Joseph’s Hospital. She enjoyed watching sports including fastpitch softball, basketball, and the Minnesota Twins and Vikings. Barbara especially enjoyed time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Barbara is survived by her children, Susan (James) Schindle and Richard “Rick” (Christine) Junker all of North Mankato; five grandchildren, Matthew (Heidi) Schindle, Timothy Schindle, Sara (Cara) Junker, Marta Krosch, and Laura Junker; ten great-grandchildren, Callie (Trevor) Pengilly, Kyle (Gretchen) Looft, McKenna (Jay) Krosch, Nathan (Katie) Looft, Tealy Krosch, Ellie, Cale, Toby, and Corbin Schindle; two great-great grandchildren, Owen Pengilly and Hudson McHugh; two sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law; also many nieces and nephews.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard in 2015; and great-grandson, Alan Junker in 2020.
