Bernice L. Peterson, age 105, of Mankato, died on Thursday, October 31, 2019 at Pathstone Living. 

A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, November 5 at 11:00 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church.  Visitation one hour prior to the service at the church.  Interment will be at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Elysian.  Mankato Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Bernice was born on February 7, 1914 in Janesville Township to Clarence and Lydia (Grams) O’Brien.  She attended Janesville Public School and graduated in 1930.  Bernice attended Mankato Teacher’s College and received her Standard Elementary Teacher’s Certificate in 1932.  Bernice was united in marriage to Theodore Peterson on July 28, 1936 in Winnebago, MN.  She and Theodore lived their entire life in Mankato.  In 1956, Bernice earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Mankato State University.  She was actively engaged in teaching from 1932-1975.  She taught school in Shevlin, MN, Judson, St. Clair, rural schools, and the last twenty years at Franklin Elementary in Mankato.  Bernice was a lifetime member of the Minnesota Retired Teachers Association.  She enjoyed hiking, baseball, reading, and cooking.

Bernice is survived by brother, Roger D. (Judy) O’Brien of Madison Lake; and several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Theodore on January 5, 1979; three sisters, Beatrice, Ruby, Dorothy; brother, Harvey.
