Billy Dean Bleasdell

Billy Bleasdell, age 91 of Mankato passed away Sunday, March 3, 2024, at Pathstone in Mankato.

Private family burial at Fort Snelling National Cemetery will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to an organization of the donor’s choice.  Mankato Mortuary is assisting with arrangements.

Billy was born on August 29, 1932, in Ida County, Iowa to Edgar and Hilda (Sindt) Bleasdell, the second born of three children. He attended and graduated from Rockwell City High School and enlisted in the US Navy in 1952. He was stationed in the Philippines and received the National Defense and Good Conduct Medals. He was honorably discharged in 1956.

He was united in marriage to Colleen Campbell in 1959 and was later divorced. After his sales career, he worked at Mankato State in the custodial department. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion of Mankato. 

Billy enjoyed watching fast pitch softball, college sports and even volunteered with sporting events at MSU.

Survivors include two daughters Kyle Bleasdell of Chaska, Beth (Greg) Pooley of Mankato; three grandchildren Nik Bleasdell, Brian Klungness, Taylor Klungness; two sisters Mary Hartsell of Fort Myers, FL, Margaret Lowe of Palm Coast, FL; nieces, nephews and their families. Billy was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers-in-law Dale Hartsell and Don Lowe.

We are thankful for all the staff at Pathstone, including the RN’s, RA’s, life enrichment, dietary, custodial, and all the family members in memory care, especially Sheri and Laurie. Thank you also to Ecumen Hospice and all of our friends who have been on this journey with us. When you think of him, remember his smile, love of ice cream, the joy he got from watching the Twins game, reading the newspaper and simply being in the sun.
