Cora I. Cavett

Cora Irene Cavett, age 79, of Mankato, MN, passed away on August 26, 2023, after a 6+ year battle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP), a rare neurologic disorder that robs a person of the control of body and mind.

Cora was born on October 17, 1943, to Jesse and Marie Douglas, in Macomb, Illinois.  She graduated from high school in Colchester, IL in 1961. On December 22, 1963, Cora married her high school sweetheart, Danny Joe Cavett, at Colchester United Methodist Church in Colchester, IL.  They had two sons.

Cora and Danny moved to Minnesota in 1970 and she always enjoyed visiting friends and family in Illinois.  Cora loved pigs having grown up on a farm where her father raised champion Hampshire hogs.  She loved cats, her Shetland Sheepdog and reading.  Cora was a collector and appreciated artwork from the southwest.

Once Cora’s two sons were in grade school, she began what would become a 25+ year career as a Histologic Lab Technician at the hospital in Mankato, MN and from which she retired in the early-2000's.  

Cora is survived by her two sons, Christopher Cavett (Karen) of Mankato, MN, Jason Cavett, of Cochise, AZ, grandsons, Ben Cavett of Bozeman MT, & Kyle Cavett of Mankato MN, sister Clara (Dana) Rabideau of Fort Smith, AR, sister Carole (Gary) Turner of Duluth, MN and brother Kenneth (Karen) Douglas of Jacksonville, IL.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Dannysister Jean Danielson and nephew Paul Douglas.

A celebration of life service will be held for Cora, as well as for her late-husband Danny, who passed away on December 26, 2021.  The service for Cora and Danny will be held on Friday, September 1st, 2023, at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, 150 Stadium Court, Mankato, MN.  Visitation with family will begin at 10:30 AM., service will begin at 11:30 AM with a lunch reception following the service.  Following the service and lunch reception at the church, an interment of cremation urns will be performed at the Minneopa Cemetary, 21075 County Rd 117, Mankato, MN.

The family wishes to send special thanks to the staff from Waters Edge Assisted Living Facility and Moments Hospice for their loving care.  The family prefers memorials to CurePSP or to the MS Society in lieu of flowers.
