Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 Thursday, December 28, 2023 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in St. Clair, with Father Schneider officiating. Burial with military honors will be in the church cemetery. There will be one hour of visitation prior to the service at church.
Cornelius “Neil” Maloney was born on July 18, 1928 to parents Francis Maloney and Margaret F. Bowe Maloney in Decoria Township, Blue Earth County, Minnesota. He died on December 8, 2023 at the age of 95 in Citrus Heights, California. Brother to Mary Sorenson, Margaret Grams, Francis Maloney, Catherine Hinton, Gertrude Pease, Marcella Bloom and James Maloney.
Neil joined the US Army in December 1950 and served 2 years active duty in the Infantry Branch. He was a 38-year member of the American Legion, St. Clair Post 475. In 1964 he moved to California but returned to Minnesota many times over the years to visit family and join in celebrations, birthdays and milestones.
He worked for over 25 years at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in Livermore, California. In retirement he moved to Modesto, in the California Central Valley where he was closer to farmland that brought him so much pleasure. In 2016 he relocated to Citrus Heights, California to be closer to family.
Neil is survived by his sister Marcella Bloom, sister-in-law Linda Maloney and many nieces and nephews.
