Curtis “Curt” Anderson, Army Veteran of the Vietnam War, 77, of North Mankato, MN, passed away unexpectedly on August 16, 2024.
A Celebration of Life will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 23, 2024. Visitation will be on Thursday from 4-7 p.m., as well as one hour before the service on Friday. Both will be held at Northview – North Mankato Mortuary. The Celebration will be livestreamed and can be found at www.mankatomortuary.com. A private burial will be held at Fort Snelling at a later date.
Curt was born December 8, 1946, in St. Paul to Charles and Marie (Engebretson) Anderson. He graduated from Morris High School and attended vocational school in Alexandria, MN studying tool & die, and marine and small engine. Curt was a proud member of the US Army and served from 1965 to 1967.
Curt was united in marriage to Diane Mounsdon on September 18, 1971. They made their home in Alexandria, MN, where they had their son, Chad. They moved to Mankato in 1975, where their daughter, Sheri, was born. Curt spent most of his career as a terminal operator for Williams Pipeline, dedicating over 40 years of his working career to a job he loved.
In his free time, Curt loved bowling, billiards, and casinos. He spent every Monday night with his bowling league, enjoying time spent with friends. He also loved to travel, often going on solo road trips with his beloved Honda Gold Wing. He would tell Diane that he was checking out the places they could go when she retired. He also enjoyed traveling to his Army veteran’s reunions, taking them to multiple places throughout the country. One of his greatest traits was that he could fix anything - it didn’t matter if it was a leaky pipe, or an old Kirby vacuum……Curt could fix it all and loved doing it.
Curt also enjoyed camping, fishing, boating, and water skiing. Their favorite place was Camper’s Paradise on Lake Belle Taine in Nevis, MN, and have gone there for over 50 years…same week in July, same island camp site. They have made lifelong friends on the island and have instilled a love of that lake in their children and grandchildren. Their dream of owning a cabin on Lake Belle Taine was recently fulfilled.
Curt never met a person he could not strike up a conversation with. You never had to worry about awkward silence when he was in the room. Some say he could ‘talk to a tree’.
Curt is survived by his wife of 52 years, Diane; son, Chad (Tricia) Anderson of North Mankato; daughter, Sheri (Shane) Semanek of Colorado Springs; grandchildren Morgan (fiancé Alec Scherer) Anderson, and Evan Anderson; sister, Sandy (Dave) Flohr; sister-in-law, Ardell Anderson; and other extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Jerry, and his parents-in-law, Lamont and Phyllis Mounsdon.
Memorials are preferred to Tunnel to Towers Foundation, providing mortgage-free homes to families of fallen soldiers, which was near and dear to Curt and Diane’s heart; or Mission 22, dedicated to veterans’ support for mental health.
