Daniel David Tierney III, age 75, of Mankato, died November 28, 2023 at Cottagewood Senior Communities in Mankato.

Daniel was born July 24, 1948 in St. Paul to James and Marjorie (Fiereck) Tierney. Dan graduated from Shanley High School in 1966. He was inducted into the Deacon Football Hall of Fame in 2016. He went on to earn a BS degree in Microbiology from Mankato State University. Dan served his country in the United States Army from 1970 to 1976. For many years, he worked as a microbiologist until retiring in 2010.

He married Patricia Andreasen on September 8, 2001 and gained two step-daughters, and later became “Grandpa Dan” to Chase, Evan, Emerson, and Rhys.

Daniel had a great sense of humor and a contagious laughter. His motorcycle adventures with the gang from Seventh Street were very special times for him, and surely the origin of the nickname “Dirty Dan.” What a wonderful, loyal group of friends. He enjoyed boating, cooking, and inventing fun projects and learning adventures with his nieces and nephews. Family time was high on his list of fun, and when he hosted an event, it was a grand time! Everyone knew there was something special in store when Dan planned a get together.

Daniel is survived by sisters, Maretta (Craig) Clauson, Pat (Mike) Crean, Sheila (Jake Rademacher) Jamieson, Colleen (Dan) Barta, and Kelly (Steve) Mondloch; numerous nieces and nephews; and step-daughters, Carissa and Shawna and their children.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Patricia Tierney; brother, James Tierney; and brother-in-law, best friend, and birthday partner, Steve “Jamie” Jamieson.

The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to the staff at Cottagewood and Mayo Hospice for wonderful care of our brother.

The family prefers memorials be directed to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
