Darrell Dean Johnson, 76, passed away Sunday, March 16, 2025. Although unexpected, Darrell passed away with his loved ones at his side.
Darrell’s life and military service will be honored on Saturday, March 22, 2025 at Northview – North Mankato Mortuary in North Mankato, MN. Visitation to begin at 10:00am, funeral service at 11:00am. Burial at Butternut Valley Cemetery in Butternut Township following lunch. Darrell was born on June 5, 1948 to Clarence and Ardyce (Heljeson) Johnson. Darrell was the youngest of 2 children and grew up in Lake Crystal, MN on the family’s farm. Darrell graduated from Lake Crystal High School in 1967 and found the love of his life, Linda Kopischke. They were married for 56 years.
Following graduation, Darrell enlisted in the US Navy and served on the USS Providence, a light cruiser. He married Linda on July 20th, 1968 prior to his deployment into active duty. Darrell served in the Vietnam War from 1968-1970.
Following his service to his country, Darrell moved his family back to MN and raised 3 sons on their farm in Butternut Township. Darrell farmed for many years, was a semi-truck owner-operator, and a manager at Coolstor in New Ulm, MN.
Darrell enjoyed driving pickups (especially Fords), mowing lawn on his John Deere, traveling, camping, and spending time with his family. He also enjoyed WWs.
Darrell was preceded in death by his father, Clarence; mother, Ardyce; father-in-law, Robert Kopischke, and mother-in-law, Bonnie Kopischke (Robinson).
Darrell is survived by his wife, Linda; sons, Mark (Kelly) Johnson, Todd Johnson, and Jason Johnson; 6 grandchildren, Caden, Devin, Morgan, Jordan, McKayla and Natalie Johnson and 4 great-grandchildren. Family and friends will miss him greatly.
