David Carl Christofferson, age 78, passed away peacefully August 24, 2022 at Oak Terrace in North Mankato after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease.
He was born March 1, 1944 to Wilbur and Eleanor Christofferson in Blooming Prairie, MN. He attended K-8 in a one-room schoolhouse in Pratt, MN before graduating from Owatonna High School. He attended Austin Community College prior to the University of Minnesota where he earned Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Agricultural Science. He was a proud member of the Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity.
Dave was a teacher at heart, teaching a combined 14 years at Wanamingo High School, Wells High School, and Ellsworth Community College in Iowa Falls, IA. In 1978, he began working for Case International Harvester as a Service Manager. He worked for Case-IH until his retirement in 2006.
Dave loved fishing, the Minnesota Twins and Vikings, and most of all, being a dad and grandpa. He enjoyed playing cards, eating desserts, working in the garden, “checking out the crops”, restoring furniture, finding/reading historical markers, and driving on roads he’d never driven on before. Dave was kind to everyone and always thought of others before himself. Service work was a passion in his life. In younger years, he was active with FFA and the Jaycee’s. He volunteered preparing taxes and driving for VINE and Meals on Wheels. Dave had a very strong faith. He was always active in his church communities, serving on Church Council, as Church President, teaching Sunday School/Confirmation and often lecturning, and ushering.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Cheryl; daughter, Amy Quaintance (David), son Chad (Paula), and daughter, Kari Wilhelmi (Kevin); five grandchildren, Jack, Sam, Tyler, Patrick, and Hannah; as well as his brothers, sisters and extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother and sister; and sister, Donna Reese.
A visitation will be held at Messiah Lutheran Church, 1706 Lee Boulevard North Mankato, MN on Tuesday, August 30 from 4:00 pm-7:00 pm and one hour prior to the service. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday August 31, at 11:00 am at Messiah Lutheran Church. Interment will be at the Garden City Cemetery. Livestreaming will be available at www.mankatomortuary.com
The family would like to thank the staff at Oak Terrace Assisted Living for the compassionate care Dave received.
