David Lance “Butch” Kimble, age 72, from Madison Lake, MN, died Sunday, March 3, 2024 at the New Prague Hospital following a long bout with cancer.
Visitation will be held from 10-11am, Monday, March 11, 2024 at Northview – North Mankato Mortuary with a service starting at 11am. Military honors will be provided by Mankato Area Veterans Memorial Rifle Squad. After a luncheon at Northview, burial will follow at Woodland Hills Memorial Park in Mankato.
Dave was born May 14, 1951 at Immanuel Hospital in Mankato to Robert and Ruth Kimble of Madison Lake. He was the youngest of four children, and his three sisters lovingly tormented him as a young child. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. As a youth, he biked the countryside with his friends, raised various farm animals, and enjoyed spending time with his dog, Deuteronomy “Deuter.” As he grew older, he developed a love of cars and mechanics.
He served six years in the Army Reserves as a demolition specialist after high school. His career in maintenance started at Atlas Plastics, which led to working for Hiniker Company for more than 40 years until retiring in 2019.
He met his future wife, Linda Paakkonen, at Bethany Lutheran High School in Mankato, and they were married on September 22, 1973 at King of Grace in Golden Valley, MN. They started their marriage in St. Peter, MN and eventually built a home on the Lake Ballantyne farm where he grew up.
Dave enjoyed spending time in his garage, working on cars and other projects for friends and neighbors. A homemade tractor (jitney), log splitter, sheet rock jack, and engine hoist were among his building projects. He enjoyed road trips and traveled to both coasts and Phoenix numerous times, mainly to visit family. Crossword puzzles were a favorite pastime, and he acquired a bedtime reading habit in his later years.
Dave is survived by his wife, Linda Kimble; son, Damon (Christy) Kimble; daughter, Cybil (Jim) Sykora; son, Lance Kimble; grandchildren, Amiel Hassan, Zaakir Hassan, Reeanna Hassan, Maille Kimble, and Rylan Sykora; sisters, Berta Anton, Becky (John) Anton, and Susie (Dale) Fredrickson; and several nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Ruth Kimble.
The family wishes to thank Madison Lake Fire and Rescue and the medical staffs at Mayo Clinic Health Systems in Fairmont, Mankato, and New Prague for the excellent care. They are also grateful for the spiritual support from St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in North Mankato, and Friedens Lutheran Church in New Prague.
Be thou faithful onto death, and I will give thee a crown of life. Revelation 2:10
