David Harold Wishart went to be with his Savior on February 24th at his home surrounded by his wife, children and grandchildren.
David was born Sept 28th 1954 to Harold and Francis (Irvin) Wishart. He graduated from Mapleton high school in 1973 where he still holds the school record for the 2 mile run and from Cedarville University in 1977. He married Christine Taylor on June 24th, 1977 and returned to Minnesota to begin teaching at Grace Christian School and farm with his father.
David loved keeping bees because he saw in them their creator's design, and running for the analogy it provides for the rest of life. When he was diagnosed with the cancer to which his body eventually succumbed, he applied a running analogy once again and was thankful that much like running on southern Minnesota prairie where he grew up, he could see the finish line coming a long way off. He became fascinated by studying the disease and claimed to have more fun meeting with the oncologist than anyone ought to because they talked about the science of what was happening.
David was always a teacher. Whether it was his students at Grace or Westwood Christian Schools, the athletes he coached, his children or his grandchildren, he loved the way science revealed the complexity of his Maker's creation.
David is survived by his wife of 42 years, Christine; his children Aaron, Charity ( Isaiah ) Oetken, Rebekah (Daniel) Nunez, Hannah (Ryan) Johnson, and Caleb; mother, Francis; sister, Sheryl (Greg) Roberts; brother, Keith (Laurie); and 9 grandchildren, Kaylee, Titus, Alethea, Ezekial, Madelyn, Alejandro, Alena, Mia, Flavaia. He was preceded in death by his sister, Janice; brother; Royce; and father, Harold.
He will be interred at Union Cemetery in Mapleton MN at 10:30 on Friday, February 28th. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, February 29th at Grace Baptist Church of Mankato, MN. The many people he influenced in some way are welcome to attend either service, but in lieu of flowers, the family would request that a donation be made in his honor to the ministries that he invested the preponderance of his professional life, either Grace Christian School of Mankato or Westwood Christian School of Miami FL.
