Diodata Bevacqua, age 89, of Mankato, MN, formerly of Bound Brook, NJ, and Ocala, FL, died on Tuesday May 17, 2022, at Oak Terrace Assisted Living in North Mankato.
Family services will be held in New Jersey at a later date. Interment will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens in Ocala.
Diodata Bevacqua was born May 24, 1932, to Giovanni and Maria (Rossi) DiMartino in Colledimacine, Italy. The family emigrated from Italy to Hillside, NJ, in 1960 to make a better life for themselves. She met the love of her life Anthony Bevacqua in a doctor’s office in Hillside, and they married on November 30, 1963. She worked as a seamstress and was a homemaker for her family. Diodata enjoyed cooking, swimming, needlework, playing bocce and bingo, and get-togethers with friends and family. In 1990, she retired with Tony to Ocala, FL. After returning to New Jersey in 2020 to live with her son John, she moved to Mankato to live with her daughter in 2021.
Diodata is survived by her three children, Anthony Bevacqua Jr. of South Bound Brook, NJ, John Bevacqua of Bridgewater, NJ, Maria Bevacqua of Mankato, MN; five grandchildren, Oriana, Giada, Lauren, Ashley, and Patrick; two sisters, Lola (Benito) Cappuccia of McKinney, TX, and Eleanor DiMartino of Springfield, NJ; nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Diodata was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Tony on September 7, 2001; sister Adriana (DiMartino) Nigro; brother, Giuseppe DiMartino; and daughter-in-law, Jessica Flatequal.
The family thanks Mayo Clinic Hospice and Oak Terrace for the amazing care they provided. Many thanks, also, to friends and family who called, visited, and sent cards and treats during her illness.
