Don was born on July 9, 1932 in St. Peter, Minnesota to Frederick “Fritz” and Amanda “Jane” Dehning in his parent’s home. He graduated from St. Peter High School, Class of 1950. He joined the U.S. Army National Guard, and soon afterward found himself serving a two-year deployment at an army base in the deep south, preparing soldiers for service during the Korean Conflict. Returning home, he began full-time work in the grocery business and remained in that vocation until retirement from Super Valu as a Meat Manager at the Hilltop Mankato location.
On August 11, 1957, he married Kathleen M. King of Cambridge, Minnesota and began raising a family.
Don was most proud of his family, his service as a board member in the Shiloh Court Homeowners Association, his Fourth Degree membership in the Knights of Columbus, and was privileged to serve as Grand Knight for his local KC Council.
He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife; brother, Bruce; sons, Christopher and David; daughter-in-law, Mara; grandchildren, Michaela and Mark Dehning; and his step-grandchild, AJ Degidio.
