Donald Eugene Stemper, age 89, passed away on March 13, 2023 at Mayo Clinic Health System – Mankato.
Born on August 4, 1933 in North Mankato, Minnesota, Donald was the oldest son of Nicholas and Harriet Stemper. He graduated from Mankato High School in 1951 and served in the Air Force from 1953-1957. Because of his extensive skills in printing, cartography and photography, he served as a print making and topography instructor at Fort Belvoir Base in Virginia. A career highlight for him after his years in the military was working for National Geographic.
He married Peggy Ann Nelson and they had a daughter, Deborah. He later married Linda Wood. They had two sons, David and Todd.
In his retirement, Don was active in the Korean War Veterans Group and American Legion in North Mankato.
Donald is survived by children, Deborah and David; brother, Cliff; sister-in-law, Lois; nephews, John and Paul; niece, Michele Collins; grandchildren, great-nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son, Todd; parents, Nicholas and Harriet Stemper; sister, Barbara; brother, Nicholas; and niece, Cheryl Giese.
No service is planned and burial will be at a later date at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls, MN.
