Donna M. Southwick

Donna Mae (Himmelman) Southwick was a Minnesotan through and through.  She enjoyed the seasons because of the variety of flowers, weather, and especially Minnesota sports.  She passed on Monday, August 19, 2019.

Memorial Visitation 1-4 p.m., Saturday, August 24, 2019 at Northview – North Mankato Mortuary, 2060 Commerce Drive, North Mankato.  Interment in Glenwood Cemetery, Mankato.

Donna was born June 12th, 1928 to Fred and Mayme (Bublitz) Himmelman and spent the majority of her life in the Mankato area. She graduated from Mankato High School in 1946 and Mankato Teachers College in 1950.

Donna married the love of her life, Charles Edward Southwick in 1953 and lived in Norfolk, VA during her husband’s term of naval service. They returned to make their home in Mankato, raising two children, Scott Southwick and Lizbeth (Southwick) Kliewer both of Mankato.  In later life she shared a home with her daughter, son-in-law Curtis, and the pride and joy of her life her grandchildren Gretchen, Madeline, Spencer, Thomas, and Jackson.      

Working years were spent as an elementary teacher as well as partnering in her husband’s printing business.  She finished her working career in the Registrar’s Office at Minnesota State University.

Donna enjoyed many activities around Mankato, including reading, flower gardening, the symphony, MSU plays, watching the Twins and Vikings, and working with Katoland Connection Club. She enjoyed being a part of her grandchildren’s many activities including homeschooling, 4-H, piano, band, and Lancers.  She was a member of the First Church of Christ, Scientist in Mankato, loving her many years spent there. 

Donna is survived by her children, Scott Southwick and Lizbeth (Curtis) Kliewer all of Mankato; grandchildren, Gretchen Kliewer, Madeline (Austin) Dauterman, Spencer Kliewer, Thomas Kliewer, and Jackson Kliewer; sister, Elaine (Himmelman) Anderson of Mankato; brothers, Blaine Himmelman of Crystal and Dale Himmelman of North Mankato; sister-in-law, Nancy Vincent and husband, Frank of Wells, MN; and her much loved nieces and nephews.
