Doris Ramy, 97, of North Mankato, died Thursday, Jan. 25, at Mayo Health Systems in Mankato.
Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2023 at Northview-North Mankato Mortuary, 2060 Commerce Drive, North Mankato. A private burial will be held at a later date.
Doris was born Feb. 21, 1925, in Sioux City, Iowa, to Clarence and Mabel Lukken.
The family moved to a farm in the Kerns Area near upper North Mankato. She attended the one-room school in Kerns. In her youth, she learned to be the excellent cook and baker she was for the rest of her life.
She married Otto Baier in New Ulm on Dec. 2, 1944. The couple lived in New Ulm for a few years before moving to Mankato. Otto preceded her in death in 1962. In addition to raising a small family, Doris worked at Continental Can for a few years.
Doris was one of the best women bowlers in the Mankato area, which led to her job at the Double Deuce bowling alley, where she also gave bowling instructions.
Doris later learned bookkeeping, which led to a 25-year job at Chip Steak and Provision, retiring in 1985.
When her bowling days were over, Doris took up golf and fell in love with the game. She golfed through the age of 93.
Doris married John Ramy on April 30, 1971, in Mankato. The couple enjoyed duck hunting, fishing, golfing, gardening and occasionally visiting area casinos together.
Doris had a wonderful sense of humor and was blessed with an out-of-tune singing voice she used to sing birthday wishes to her family on their special days. She was one of the sweetest women one could hope to meet.
She is survived by her husband, John, of North Mankato; daughter, Linda Lowe (Marty) of Belgrade Township; son, Paul of Mankato; and sister, Donna Bye of Richfield; nine grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Roy, Elton and Farrell Lukken; and daughter, Cathy.
