Doris June Schumacher, 84, of Annandale, formerly of North Mankato, died peacefully surrounded by her family, Friday, April 12, 2019, under Hospice care at Annandale Care Center, Annandale. Private services will be held. Burial will be at Woodland Hills Memorial Park, Mankato. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred. Mankato Mortuary is assisting the family with arrangements.

Doris was born on Aug. 13, 1934, to John and Una (Ogan) Geak in Mankato. She grew up in Good Thunder and graduated from the high school there in 1952. Doris was working at Immanuel Hospital in Mankato when she met Jerry S. Schumacher and they later married on Dec. 10, 1955, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Mankato. They lived in North Mankato, Worthington and Lake Crystal before settling in North Mankato where they lived and raised their family for more than 40 years. Doris moved to Annandale in 2016. Besides raising four children she also worked various positions at Head Start, the local drug store, and as office manager of an independent dealer of nutritional and household products. She was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Mankato, and served there in many different capacities over the years. She had many talents and interests which included gardening, bowling, baking/cooking, sewing, knitting, playing cards, watching all kinds of sports and most recently coloring. She was witty, a good listener and a rock for her children and grandchildren, understanding and appreciating each of them as unique individuals.

Doris is survived by children, Linda (Robert) Rippel of Minnesota Lake, Sharon Schumacher (Steve Prinsen) of Annandale, Mark (Stacy) Schumacher of Washington D.C., and Joann (Scott) Schumacher-Stankey of St. Paul; five grandchildren, Tory (Estee) Rippel, Trevor (Katie) Prinsen, Stephanie Prinsen, Alison Schumacher and Cory (fiancé Shannen) Schumacher; sister-in-laws Diane (Charles) Reasner of Mankato and Loretta (Allen) Sigafus of Mankato; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry, in 2011, and their companion Snoopy; sister Nadine and her husband Lowell Parsons; parents; brother-in-law Robert Schumacher; and sister-in-law Betty and her husband John Hennessey.
