Dorothy Jean Lindsay

Dorothy Jean Lindsay, age 92 of North Mankato died Thursday, August 8, 2019 at Oak Terrace in North Mankato.

A Celebration of Life service will be held Wednesday, August 14 at 11:00 a.m., at Northview ~ North Mankato Mortuary, 2060 Commerce Drive, North Mankato, MN.  Visitation will be held one hour before the service.  Burial will be at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis at a later date.

Dorothy Jean Lindsay was born March 25, 1927 to George and Edna (Myers) DeGroot in Mason City, Iowa.  She graduated from Coe College in 1949 with a bachelor's degree in English/Journalism.  Dorothy was united in marriage to Bryce Lindsay on May 27, 1950 at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.  In addition to making a home for her family, Dorothy was a teacher’s aide and substitute teacher for District 77 schools, and an adjunct instructor at Bethany College in Mankato. She also worked for many years at the Minnesota State bookstore. She was an active member of Centenary United Methodist Church, serving on various boards and Women’s Circles. Dorothy was also a member of the PEO Sisterhood, Thursday Reading Club, and other clubs in the Mankato area. She volunteered her time with MRCI, Meals on Wheels, refugee programs, and other organizations.

Dorothy enjoyed reading, knitting, sewing, cooking and gardening.  She loved her dogs and most of all, her family.

She is survived by her three children, Curtis Lindsay of Gaithersburg, MD, Carol (Ronald) Begley of St. Albans, VT, Craig (Tina) Lindsay of North Mankato; three grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and by her husband, Bryce in 2013
