Dr. Kent Jose Cova-Suarez, age 71, of Mankato, died Thursday, February 11, 2021 at Mayo Clinic Health System, Mankato.
Kent was born June 24, 1949 in Maracay, Venezuela to Jose Cova Rey and Olga Suarez. His family immigrated to the United States when he was young. He attended Marmion Academy in Aurora, IL, later graduated from Loyola University in Chicago, IL and in 1983 he obtained his Degree of Master of Science specializing in Behavioral Science and Technology at Universidad Simón Bolívar in Venezuela. After relocating to Mankato in early 2000s, he expanded his career at Open Door Health Care Center providing community support and participating in numerous boards, including the St. Peter Community Free Clinic. He married Trina Maria Cova Rey on May 19, 2006 in Mankato.
Kent was loved by his family and all those that had the opportunity to experience his giving spirit, passion, and humility that characterized him. He was an optimist who knew the value of life, appreciating every minute and living it fully. In his many years in Mankato, he dedicated most of his work to the community, helping immigrants, refugees, and those of lower socioeconomic resources. He was co-founder of A.L.A.S. (A Latin American Success) and Board Member of the St. Peter Community Free Clinic, among many other independent activities in support of the community. He was an exemplary human who inspired and was admired by colleagues and friends, alike; without a doubt, his generosity and optimism left a mark in the lives of those he met.
Kent is survived by his wife, Trina Maria Cova Rey of Mankato; daughter, Cristina (Rodolfo) Bozas of Massachusetts; grandchildren, André and Paloma Bozas; brother, Johny (Maria Teresa) Cova-Suarez; sisters, Karena and Olguita Cova-Suarez; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
