Tim was born on December 31, 1966, in Beloit, WI, to Jerry and Joan (Vinje) Christiansen, joining his older brother, Jonathan, and completing their family. He spent his early grade school years in Butzbach, Germany, where his father served as a Missionary Pastor. From a young age, Tim dedicated his life to the Lord and felt called to become a physician.

He graduated from Clinton High School in Clinton, WI, and went on to earn a double major in Biology and Chemistry from Carroll University in Waukesha, WI. He then obtained his medical degree from the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine before completing a five-year residency at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee. He worked tirelessly—putting himself through medical school while raising children with his first wife—always remaining steadfast in his faith and commitment to helping others.

Board-certified in Otolaryngology and Facial Plastic Surgery, Tim joined the Mankato Clinic in 1998, holding the position of Ear Nose and Throat physician, head and neck surgeon. He cared for patients with skill and compassion until his diagnosis of Glioblastoma Multiforme in August 2022. He was a proud member of both the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and the Christian Medical Association.

Tim truly embraced life with his brilliant mind, quick wit and Dad jokes. As a child, he loved to ride his unicycle and transferred that joy into running and cycling as an adult. He was outstanding in high school and college wrestling, cross country, a talented artist, a novice photographer, he completed numerous marathons and century rides—always challenging himself and inspiring those around him. He loved and disciplined himself to learn new things with his curious mind right to the last days of his life.

On February 18, 2011, Tim married Marie Eppeland Farley, and together they built a family of ten, sharing unforgettable summer vacations and adventures. Even after his diagnosis, Tim and Marie continued to honor their love for travel by taking their family on a memorable trip to Germany—revisiting the places of his early life and creating cherished memories that will last a lifetime. Together, Tim and Marie shared a passion for reading the Bible together each morning, the birds in the backyard, games and cards with family, cycling, hiking, travel, working out together, boating and quietly being together, holding each other’s hand.

Tim is survived by his loving wife, Marie; his children: Dr. Hope Christiansen and her husband, Trieu Ho; sons Benjamin Christiansen, Nicholas Christiansen, and Jacob Christiansen; and daughter, Hannah Christiansen and her husband, Alfredo Fernandez. He also leaves behind his stepchildren: Lauren and her husband, Seth Moffett, Michaela Farley, and Sam Farley and his significant other, Kaylee Enevold; his loyal companion and surprise birthday pup, Lily; parents, Jerry and Joan Christiansen; brother, Jon, and his wife, JoAnn; niece, Emilee, and her husband, Brandon Hughes, along with their children, Beau, Luke and Callie; nephew, Kameron Christiansen; mother-in-law, Myrna Eppeland; in-laws, Dr. Steve and Chris Pitcher, Dan and Yvonne Gratz, and Connie Eppeland, also mourn his passing, along with his nephew, Dr. Austin Pitcher, and his wife, Dr. Valerie Au; niece, Dr. Morgan Pitcher, and her fiancé, Cory Stockwell; nephews, Erik Gratz and Aaron Gratz with his wife, Megan and daughter Rhiannon.

Tim was preceded in death by father-in-law, John Eppeland; brother-in-law, Roy Eppeland, and nephew, Alex Pitcher.

Tim was a proud grandfather to Freya Moffett and eagerly anticipated the arrival of his soon-to-be-born granddaughter, Baby Girl Ho. He also deeply valued his dear family friend, Meagan Moss, as well as his aunts, uncles, cousins, and the many friendships he built over the years. Tim cherished the relationships he had with his colleagues at the Mankato Clinic and missed the fulfillment of his work and the joy of caring for his patients to the very end.

To honor Tim’s spirit, sense of humor and his affinity for fun socks, the family invites everyone to wear their fun socks in his memory. The family will be wearing his ties and fun socks. We would also love it if you would upload fun photos of Tim and record fond memories you shared so we can create a legacy video for his children, grandchildren and family.
